The weekends recap.

Know alcohol, know peace.
No alcohol, no peace.

Then, under the glow of a full moon, I was presented with my new pride and joy, complete with a custom fork.
The Bad Brains understand Soulcraft.
However right now Im crushed under the weight of my own exhaustion and stupidity.
Remember that old adage 'measure twice, cut once?'
I cant even bring myself to explain how relevant that is in my life right now.
In 20 years of working on bikes, and Im guessing probably in the neighborhood of 2000 fork installs, Ive never cut a steerer too short.
That is of course, until tonight.
Crap.....

At the shop we would take the stance of, "Well, now you've done THAT... and now you now better." Sorry about the fork, and yes, I have done that.

I know how you feel. We all have moments of complete and inexplainable ineptitude. In an attempt to protect my artist friend's portrait painting from shipping damage, I put masking tape directly on to the paint. Right over the face part. I think of that sometimes. In particular, the part where said artist e-mailed me with, "Who was the douchebag who...". That would be me.

hell man... tonight there will be a tear in my beer and it's gonna have your fork's name on it... damn to hell. on a lighter note that new frame of yours is a slice of heaven.

that bike looks like a big brown turd

As a carpenter and part time bike mechanic I feel your pain brother. I'll cut something 3 times and it'll still be too short, so I say... "fuck it, nail it."
But in this case, "bend over and ride it like a man."

e-bay and hope that a midget is looking for a brown fork..

Time to go shop for a stem with a lower stack height.

Holy shite man, I am totally feeling your pain. Did that once with a nice Reynolds Ouzo Pro carbon fork... I almost cried.
But that's nothing like a sweet steel Soulcraft fork (God, I love those guys...). I'm assuming you've been drinking heavily to drown the pain.
Speaking of Soulcraft, if anybody knows where to find Loretta Esparza- she worked at Salsa and helped the Soulcraft guys for awhile (last I knew)- tell her that the Masiguy says howdy!

Hmmm One could measure 30 times but it doesn't do any good if you forgot to put in the spacers. whoopsy.

you gotta be effing joking.
its going to be hard to use "i was just riding along" with that one.

Yep. It only happens on your own bike, too. And I know how you did it- forgot the cable hanger, right? Sorry. At least you don't have to walk 20 miles everyday to find clean water!
