Back to Main

A bit of this, and a bit of that.

IMG_7758.jpg
I messengered for 4 years. Ive ridden day in and day out, rain or shine for many, many more years then that, and Ive never in all of that time had a nice rain jacket. So I bit the bullet last spring, after 42 straight days of rain, and bought myself a really nice Showers Pass jacket. From the day it showed up, not a drop of rain has fallen.. Untill today. It wasnt raining exactly, but rather it was a very heavy drizzle, so out the door I went with my fancy new jacket on, snug as a bug. Untill I rounded that one corner. Before I even knew what hit me, I was sliding across the pavement. Bits of Ultegra shifter, saddle, rear derailer, glove, alot of skin, and most depressingly, my new jacket were all deposited on the street. Damn the luck.
Winter is right around the bend, so lets be careful out there. Or at least dont haul ass around wet corners. You know,.. dont be dumb.
Now, to radically change the subject, as only someone with high calaber ADD could. Something I was thinking about last night, is that a bunch of folks have recently inquired as to what exactly my position at Swobo is, or at the very least, what my official involvement is. So heres a brief history of my relationship, and how it transpired into my participation. As I mentioned before, during the mid to late 90s, I was a bicycle messenger in the East Bay, and San Francisco. During that time the folks at Swobo were very, very good to me. Through them, I met people who, as it turned out, ended up playing extraordinarily crucial roles in my life. Ive often joked that without Swobo, I wouldnt have any friends.
Five or six years ago, J Mac introduced me to Roscopp, and I told him that what Tim probably hadnt mentioned to him, was that along with the brand, he was to acquire a bunch of ner-do-wells. Little did I know at that point, I meant me. I have always felt a great debt of gratitude to Tim, J, Jeff and Chris, the origional Swobo team, and as soon as I was brought on to work for Santa Cruz Bicycles, it was always in the back of my mind that at some point, and in some fashion, Id be involved with the little company who, over the years has done so much for me. Simply stated, Swobo acted as a catalyst for so much good, and change for so many people. I know it sounds cliche', but Swobo was far more of a movement then it ever was a clothing company, and simply due to that, Im proud as hell to again be a part of it, in whatever capacity they need me.
So there you go...believe it or not, thats the short version.

Hells yeah, dude. Im looking forward to replacing the armwarmers I've had for 10 years when you get the new ones in. God, I've loved those armwarmers. Im gonna frame 'em and make a shrine, no shit.
